Full-Time Youth Counsellor, Lang House, 39 hours/week (Wed-Sat)

Location: Lang House, Orillia, Ontario

Salary: $24.00/hour

The YC role requires strong leadership, communication and positive role modeling skills and possess’ a work style that embodies creativity and initiative. Your specific responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:

Key Responsibilities

  • Support all daily life skill  routines (self care, cooking, cleaning, laundry, shopping, appointments etc)
  • Coordination of student tasks within home environment (ie: chores, interior/exterior home upkeep, academic support)
  • Facilitate/co-facilitate all therapeutic/life-skills programming
  • Support youth in identifying and accessing community engagement opportunities (ie: job search/resume development, recreation clubs/programs)
  • Support skill development in meal planning and preparation, budgeting, shopping
  • Ensure the safety of students, both physically and emotionally
  • Remaining awake during overnight shifts
  • Participation in and facilitation of group meetings & discussions
  • Support the development of student action plans
  • Contribute, as part of a multi-disciplinary therapeutic team to evaluate student progress and support individual plan modifications, as required
  • Help ensure goals of the program are fulfilled
  • Manage and deescalate crisis situations that may arise at Lang House and/or with Lang House students in the community
  • Provide written reports as required in a timely and comprehensive manner

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • Police Clearance with Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Demonstrated sound judgement, integrity, patience, commitment and a sense of humour
  • Diploma or degree in relevant program
  • Some experience and training with child and youth practices
  • Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated and professional
  • Demonstrated commitment to personal growth and development
  • Valid First Aid Certification & Level ‘C’ CPR
  • Valid Driver’s License
