It’s been more than four years since Canada embarked on one of our most intriguing social policy initiatives — the legalization of recreational cannabis. Canada is only the second country to do this and so, we have had to forge our own path.
The federal government is in the midst of a review of the national cannabis legislation. This is both prudent and timely. While the legalization framework was set by the Government of Canada, many key implementation issues were left to the provinces and territories. So, it is imperative that the Government of Ontario undertake its own review — especially since it’s falling short of the vital task of educating young people about the real risks of cannabis.
