Melanie Fowler
Wilderness Therapist, Outdoor Leadership Experience (OLE)
Joined Pine River: 2023
Mel grew up in Kingston, Ontario and spent her childhood exploring the lakes and woods nearby. She has always been adventurous and up for a challenge.
Mel obtained an Honours Bachelor of Outdoor Recreation degree at Lakehead University and shortly after began working with PRI as an OLE field instructor. Inspired by her mentors, colleagues and the students, Mel left PRI to return to school to obtain a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology.
While completing her Master’s, Mel worked with a community mental health agency that provided crisis services and learned a ton. Mel also completed a practicum at an Attachment and Trauma treatment centre where she worked with individuals of all ages. When the opportunity to return to PRI as the wilderness therapist arose, Mel was excited to combine her two passions, nature and mental health, in such a beautiful way.
When she’s not in the OLE, Mel enjoys painting, crocheting, nurturing her plants and cats, and wandering the Near North.
