Pine River Institute (PRI) is a residential treatment program for youth 13-19 dealing with addictive behaviour and often concurrent mental health issues. We are a family-centered program where wilderness, therapeutic, and academic programs come together in a unique, integrated treatment and education model. PRI's treatment approach is grounded in enhancing adolescent development and maturation. The PRI program is unique in Canada. PRI’s residential beds are funded primarily by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. The organization is staffed by highly competent clinicians. Ongoing evaluation and outcome analysis is built in to PRI’s vision and mission and PRI has acquired a solid reputation in these areas.

Activities and expectations will include, but are not limited to the following:

Responsible to take initiative and provide leadership in all areas of administration such as;

·    Managing scheduling, correspondence and document production for the PRI CEO

·    Manage scheduling, meeting minutes, agenda action item tracking, document distribution and  file system for a weekly senior management meeting as well as two management committees who meet quarterly

·    Serving as Secretary to the Board

·    Manage scheduling, agenda, document production and minutes for PRI Board of Directors and Board Committees, including organizing meeting facilities and catering as required Managing and updating the corporate books for Pine River Institute

·    Serving as primary point of initial contact for all internal and external clients and stakeholders for the PRI Toronto Office: redirecting or resolving issues as appropriate

·    Preparing PRI CEO by providing briefings and materials for meetings and presentations

·    Tracking the reporting requirements and deadlines for Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care funding

·    Independently researching, prioritizing and following up on multiple incoming issues and concerns, determining the appropriate course of action, referral and/or response 

Toronto office management for PRI including:

 ·    Ordering and maintaining office supplies, and managing office equipment and service contracts. Seeking approval for equipment purchases or service contracts from Finance Director

·    Managing the corporate wireless plan, including monitoring voice and data usage, device replacement and plan modifications in conjunction with the PRI Director of Finance

·    Overseeing records management for archiving corporate documents and data

·    Coordinating IT support for technical troubleshooting

·    Updating the Office Manual as required

·    Liaising with Property Management for any landlord-tenant issues

·    Assisting the Finance Director with banking and accounts payable

  To ensure success, the Ideal candidate will have demonstrated

 ·    A minimum of 5 years’ experience supporting senior level executives, ideally within not for profit organizations, is required

·    Post-secondary diploma from an executive administrative program would be an asset

·    excellent written and oral communication skills, passionate attention to detail, comfort within dynamic environment requiring multi-tasking and strong organizational skills

·    Advanced computer proficiency

Therapist/Clinical Team Leader - Full Time

Start: June 15, 2019

Reports to: Clinical Director

Location: Shelburne , Ontario

Salary Range: $75,000 to $80,000

 Pine River Institute is a Residential Treatment Centre and Outdoor Leadership Experience for youth 13 to 19 struggling with substance abuse and the cluster of behaviours often associated with it. Our campus is located on a 200-acre site 100 kilometers northwest of Toronto, Ontario , and includes a residential program for 36 adolescents ages 13-19, an 8-bed therapeutic wilderness program near Algonquin Park, and an aftercare program, with an office in Toronto. Our family-centered program is innovative and highly structured , and creates opportunities for troubled teens to engage in a focused transformation process through a fusion of education , therapy , recreation , and life skills . The majority of our students are from Ontario, and are funded by the Ministries of Health and Education. We also work with families from across Canada, and internationally . 

Qualifications 

•  Graduate degree in a relevant therapeutic field

•  Registration with a relevant professional association

•  Minimum of 5 years related experience, with at least 3 years in a residential treatment facility and/or wilderness program is preferred

•  Demonstrated solid ability in providing individual and family therapy

•  Experience in working with adolescents , addictions and mental health issues

•  Familiarity with Relational, Systemic, and Experiential approaches to working with youth and their families

•  Previous experience with treatment planning is essential

•  Demonstrated track record of working effectively with professional , collaborative groups

•  Proven ability to make and sustain excellent interpersonal relationships

•  Strong, flexible and results-driven style

•  Excellent demonstrated leadership skills

•  Strong written and verbal communication

•  Clear certification of Vulnerable Sector Criminal Check is required 

Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

•  Provide Clinical Leadership with a team of staff and students

•  Ensure that the therapeutic goals of the program in general and the individual therapeutic plans for the students are realized

•  Provide individual and family therapy

•  Provide clinical guidance regarding students' needs and their therapeutic treatment plans

•  Ensure the safety, both physical and emotional, of the students and staff

•  Ensure the appropriate , accurate and timely flow of reports and communication with parents and students

•  Participate in research and evaluation activities

Part-Time Weekend Residential Youth Counsellor

                                                                                           

  Weekend shifts: Saturday, Sunday, Monday (33 Hours)

Pine River Institute is an innovative co-ed residential treatment program for teens struggling with addictive behaviours. We are a family-centered program comprised of 4 phases: Wilderness (Outdoor Leadership Experience), Residential, Transition, and Aftercare. Every student, upon entering the program, spends 6 or more weeks in Huntsville before moving to the residence. Day-to-day activities in wilderness include canoeing, hiking, snowshoeing, group initiatives, group and individual therapy, and journaling. Youths live and work in nature in groups of up to eight, with three staff.

 Our campus is situated on 200 acres of spectacular Niagara Escarpment land near Shelburne, Ontario. The program here includes outdoor education, individual, group, and family therapy, expressive arts, athletics, and life skills, as well as the more traditional academic offerings. We are currently seeking experienced Residential Youth Counsellor at the Shelburne campus.

Wage: $18.03/hour

The ideal candidates will possess strong leadership, communication and positive role modeling skills and will possess a work style that embodies creativity and initiative. 

Key Responsibilities

This position reports to the Weekend Program Manager with responsibilities that include but are not limited to: Organize, lead and participate in daily student academic, recreational and therapeutic activities, including:

·        Daily life routines

·        Group therapy activities

·        Family Program activities

·        Academic tutoring and homework assistance

·        Food Preparation and related kitchen duties

·        Off-Campus trips (may be overnight)

 Providing exceptional leadership, mentoring and positive relationships with students through:

o    Participation in and facilitation of group meetings & discussions

o    Development of student action plans

o    Coordination of student recreational activities

 Contribute, as part of a multi-disciplinary therapeutic team to evaluate student progress and plan individual plan modifications as required.

 Help ensure the therapeutic goals of the program in general and the individual therapeutic plan for the students are realized.

 Provide written reports as required in a timely and comprehensive manner.

·         CYW diploma or equivalent

·         Some experience with and training in child and youth care practices.

Relief Outdoor Leadership Experience - Field Instructor

We are currently seeking experienced Wilderness Field Instructors to help us deliver this unique program, primarily in Huntsville or Algonquin Park and also at the Shelburne campus.

Qualifications
We are looking for individuals with the qualifications and related experience in Wilderness field work, demonstrated sound judgment, integrity, patience, commitment, an ability to maintain clear boundaries, and a sense of humour. Required qualifications are:

  • WFR with experience managing backcountry medical issues

  • Minimum Bronze Cross Certification with NLS preferred

  • B.A., B.Sc., or college diploma in related field

  • Experience working with at-risk youth and young adults in a wilderness setting

  • Clear certification of Vulnerable Sector Criminal Check

  • Willingness to secure Canadian work permit, if required

  • Valid F Class Driver’s Licence (obtained within 6 months of hire date, at employee’s expense)

    The primary responsibility of the Field Instructor is to deliver the Outdoor Leadership Experience program; ensure group safety, teach basic wilderness skills, solidify course logistics, and maintain focus on the therapeutic elements of the wilderness experience.

    The schedule is run on a rotation of 9 days in the field (Huntsville or Algonquin), 3 days off, 3 days working at the campus near Shelburne, and 6 days off shift.
