Admissions Process

If you think Pine River might be the right choice, the steps to admission are outlined below. If you would prefer to speak to us first, please contact our Admissions Director, John Mallon at 1-519-925-9225 ext. 102.

  1. Complete our initial SCREENER here. You will need to set up a secure account and then answer some questions about the history, health, and recent behaviour of the adolescent for whom you are inquiring. This will take about 10 minutes.

  2. After the Admissions Department reviews your screener, you will be contacted and asked to revisit the application page, complete and SUBMIT our comprehensive ENROLMENT APPLICATION. You will be asked to give us information relevant to the mental, physical, behavioural, and relationship health of the adolescent, and some questions about your own health and well-being. This will take a few hours.

  3. You will be contacted by the Admissions Department and if there is a potential match between the youth and PRI, you will be asked to SUBMIT any relevant SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS (e.g., discharge summaries, transcripts, family history, psycho/educational tests).

  4. After submitting all required documents, the Admissions Department will review your family's file and you may be placed on our admissions WAITING LIST. In 2015, the average wait time for a Ministry of Health funded bed was about 13 months. We do have a limited number of beds that are not covered by our Ministry of Health but may be paid for privately. (Please contact John Mallon at 1-519-925-9225 ext. 102 for more information.)

  5. Close to the scheduled admission, your family will be invited for an on-site ASSESSMENT. The assessment is an opportunity for us to get to know each other, complete all remaining paperwork, and tour our campus. We aim to conduct this assessment about a month before admission but it may be shorter or longer, depending on the status of current students. At this time, if it is determined that clients who are paying privately will enter the program, a $2500 non-refundable deposit is required to hold the treatment bed.

  6. On the day of ADMISSION, your teenager will begin their Pine River journey with the Outdoor Leadership Experience . Read more about our program here. It is at this time your deposit, trust account, and treatment fees are required.

Upon admission, $2650 is due from families funded by the Ministry of Health:

  • $1000 damage deposit (to be refunded if unused) +
  • $1000 trust account (e.g., for uniforms, hygiene needs, outings, etc.) +
  • $650 first month treatment subsidy (billed on the 15th of each month, with the first month prorated based on date of admission)

Upon admission, $15,440 is due from families paying privately:

  • $1000 damage deposit (to be refunded if unused) +
  • $1000 trust account (e.g., for uniforms, hygiene needs, outings, etc.) +
  • 30 days’ initial treatment fees (less initial $2500 deposit)
