My name is Nadia and I'm one of the lucky kids to be helped by the amazing team at Pine River Institute. When I was first admitted to Pine River, I didn’t feel lucky. I was angry, scared, and lost. I didn’t want to be alive anymore.
I put my parents through a lot. Their “good kid”, the Honour Roll student that made friends easily, was suddenly distant and defiant at home, expelled from school, and only interested in getting drunk or high.
They tried to help: confronting me about my destructive behaviour, begging me to stop self-harming, and taking me to see doctor after doctor.
I knew I was hurting my family, and myself. I just didn’t know how to stop.
Finding Pine River would be the first step in my long road to recovery. It’s a journey that hasn’t been easy, but I’m proud of how far I’ve come and excited for what’s ahead.
My family could not afford the treatment that I needed—and got—had it not been for the generous support of donors who helped ensure that Pine River was there for me when I lost my way.
Your donation will help double the number of youth that Pine River can help each year.
Leaving Pine River wasn’t easy. I was sad to leave my team of girls and the caring staff. But, I'm happy
to make room so that another good kid can get their second chance.
Happy holidays and best wishes for 2018!
